To design the worthy heir to the Fulvia Coupé, Cesare Fiorio listened to the opinions of the drivers and technicians of the winning HF racing team and established the basic directives: short wheelbase, 2 dry places, powerful central motor, advanced aerodynamics and usability in all conditions (track, road and dirt road). Throughout the summer of 1971 Carrozzeria Bertone and Lancia HF worked to present the semi-definitive prototype of the Stratos HF in time for the Turin Motor Show (High Fidelity), however without the engine. Only after a long negotiation between Pier Ugo Gobbato and Enzo Ferrari in person was the agreement reached to use the V6 Dino engine. At that point the world's first automobile specifically designed for rallying and then mass-produced was ready. A myth!
